Upper Room is an audio narrative composed by LA based artist Evan Wright, built entirely around an original story he authored and brought to life through sound. To match the depth of his sonic storytelling, I was brought on to translate the album’s written concepts into a distinct visual identity, designing both an evocative cover art concept and a full physical vinyl package for a potential release.
The challenge was bridging the gap between Wright's written lore and a tangible aesthetic. I focused on creating an immersive visual universe that honors the story, deepens the listener's connection to the record, and stands out on both digital streaming platforms and physical record store shelves.

I explored grungy, ethereal album art styles while diving deep into Evan’s unreleased catalog to align the visual tone with his sound. Through several collaborative meetings and design presentations with the artist, we iteratively refined the concept into the final artwork direction.
The final package included high-resolution digital album art for streaming platforms, alongside production-ready vinyl sleeve dielines and insert layouts. I also delivered two distinct colorway assets (monochrome and purple/blue) optimized for both web and print production.
Though the album is currently unreleased, the final artwork successfully established a distinct visual identity that fully captured the project's audio narrative. The design left the artist with a complete, production-ready vision for both digital rollout and future physical vinyl manufacturing.

To capture the album's expansive narrative, I digitally created a central cover artwork featuring a galaxy spinning through space, a subtle nod to the atmosphere and lore of the Upper Room. To give the concept added versatility across physical and digital formats, I developed two distinct color variations: a stark, high-contrast black and white version and a vibrant, atmospheric colorway rich with deep purples and blues.
Rather than settling on a single look, exploring both palette directions allowed the visual identity to adapt seamlessly between different mediums. The black and white execution emphasizes the raw structure and scale of the cosmic composition, while the rich purple and blue tones draw out the surreal, dreamlike undertones of Evan Wright's story, giving the record a bold visual presence in any setting.

To support the physical record and sleeves, the dieline layouts focus on crisp, minimal black-and-white typography that neatly displays the album's tracklist and details. By keeping the packaging text simple, modern, and direct, the design provides all the essential record info without taking attention away from the main cover art, letting the artwork take center stage while sparking curiosity about the music inside.
