When the University of Tampa introduced mandatory neon yellow construction vests for student technician workers in the Department of Art & Design, the requirement was met with friction from both students and faculty. As a student tech working in the university fabrication lab, I saw an opportunity to replace the clinical vests with a cohesive visual identity that balanced safety standards with creative pride. I developed a complete brand proposal; introducing the distinct name Spartan Studio Techs, custom iconography, and modern uniform designs. The proposal was presented to department faculty, voted on, and officially selected for campus-wide implementation.

I conducted targeted user research across the Department of Art & Design, surveying both student technicians and faculty to identify core pain points regarding the mandatory construction vests (specifically focusing on comfort, professional sentiment, and visual recognition). Applying design thinking methodologies, I analyzed existing university staff uniforms and industrial safety gear standards to design an alternative system that satisfied campus safety requirements while fostering a sense of creative pride and team cohesion.
The project delivered a complete secondary brand system for the department, including primary and alternate logotypes, custom iconography, and brand usage guidelines. Applied touchpoints included personalized name badges, multi-angle uniform tee mockups featuring chest and back branding, and a comprehensive visual proposal presented to university leadership.
The brand proposal was formally voted on and accepted by department faculty, leading to the full implementation of the custom apparel and name badges as the official uniform for lab technicians. By addressing user pain points directly through design, the project successfully replaced the controversial construction vests with a cohesive visual identity that elevated student morale and continues to define the fabrication lab's professional presence.

I am attending my senior year studying graphic design at The University of Tampa. I have been exploring new mediums and methods of creation / design that have helped greatly in my pursuit of passion and knowledge. Ontop of my schooling, I have been prototyping a series of personal endeavors. Which in turn has required me to push my knowledge in design and workload even further!
Absolutely! With CustomAccordion, you have full control over design elements like the background color, border radius, fonts, icons, and more. This allows you to integrate the component seamlessly into your project while maintaining a consistent look with your overall design.

The identity centers on a custom monogram and logotype lockup designed to feel both industrial and refined. Utilizing the acronym SST alongside the full name Spartan Studio Techs, the typography features stylized diagonal slice cuts that mimic raw fabrication materials and precision toolpaths. Beneath the primary logo, a linework graphic motif referencing the iconic Plant Hall minarets bridges UTampa's heritage with the technical environment of the fabrication labs. The system was developed in versatile colorways, including crisp monochrome and university red, to adapt seamlessly across shop signage, digital platforms, and screenprinted apparel.

With the core visual identity established, the system was applied directly to practical, daily touchpoints through custom name badges and staff apparel. The name badges feature a dark, high-contrast layout incorporating the worker's name, role, and the circular minaret emblem framed by subtle background linework.
Complementing the badges, the official uniforms offer a minimalist yet striking alternative to standard safety gear. The vibrant red shirts showcase the SST monogram on the chest, bold "STUDIO TECHNICIAN" lettering across the back for clear identification in the shop, and a large-scale icon wrapping around the lower hip to tie the entire unit together.
